The village is located at the foot of the Little Carpathians and the north edge of Bratislava. History of the village is closely connected with pilgrimage traditions and performing the Order of Saint Paul. The Marianka village is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. The first written reference to this village dates back to 1367. The most remarkable sights are the gothic church from 1377 that was restored in baroque style in the 18th century and the monastery. Marianka used to be famous for shale exploitation that was used for school writing tables manufacture. The pilgrimage site is located in the calm natural environment nearby the church and the monastery. Its part is also a popular holy well.
