Kostolište

Kostolište

It is located in the Borská plain 1km west from Malacky. The first written reference to this village dates back to 1206. In the area of Kostolište were found Roman Barbaric settlement remains. Archaeological research testifies also presence of Celts. The village used to be named as Kiripolec until 1948. The originally gothic church from 1503 was restored in renaissance style in the 17th century. The Altarpiece from 1930 is a work of Martin Benka (1888-1971), native of Kostolište. Martin Benka is one of the most known Slovak painters of the 20th century. In Kostolište there is his memorial room, where some of his works and personal belongings can be seen. The Záhorie Cycle Route passes through the village.
